General properties for the Cos-G Class of Distributions with Applications

Abstract

In this paper, we present a new class of trigonometric distributions, called the Cos-G class of
distributions, and a new two parameter distribution, called the Cosine Weibull distribution. A mathemati-
cal approach is applied to the class, exploring the main aspects of the quantile function, expansions for the
cumulative and probability density functions, moments, moment generating function, characteristic func-
tion, entropy and reliability. The general parametric Cos-G model is then investigated, with estimation
of the parameters through the maximum likelihood method. Then, the special Cosine Weibull model is
applied to three real life data sets, with favorable results in terms of t in comparison to well-established
models.
